This research was carried out to find out the challenges and the economic and operational impact of change on supply chain, including the options available to improve the challenges and create increased performance on the chain. To drive home the study we focused on PHRC Limited in Nigeria. We also undertake a comprehensive review of current literatures in the topic area as to lay ground work for the study. We equally adopted narrative and descriptive methods in analyzing the data generated. Through the study, we find out that supply chain faces a lot of challenges such as uncertainty in operations, inadequate or in some cases complete absence of technological input, effect of bullwhip arising from various fluctuations in demand and supply, poor benchmarking leading to improper supply chain monitoring etcetera, all these impact greatly on supply chain. From the study we also noticed that firms that fail to pay attention on these challenges, including its impact perform sub optimally. Thus to improve on the challenges and perform optimally, we recommended, the application of collaborative planning, forecasting and replenishment business tools as to create commitment among partners in the chain. We also advocated strategic technological buy-in, as to improve business process, easy retrieval of data for prompt decision making; attention should also be paid to benchmarking as to create check and balance in performance; serious consideration should also be paid to the effect of globalization because ignoring this could lead to loss of customers.
