I. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND OF THE COMPANY
Tiles have been a popular material for interior and exterior decoration due to their aesthetic appeal, as well as their durability and easy care. There are some benefits of using tiles such as cleanliness and versatility, fire and water resistance. That is why tiles are used in buildings, churches and mosques, restaurants and shops, hospitals and homes. Tiles can also use as cover to walls and floors, roofs and pavements, furniture and stoves and Lucban Tiles Center has been committed to provide the people with quality and complete home finishing products by including different brand of floor tiles, bathroom wares and PVC Doors. Building commercial and residential infrastructures in Lucban and nearby town is fast growing and one of materials used are tiles. Because of this, the demand for tiles increase that’s why Lucban Tiles Center was established by Mr Anthony Marquez, a retailer of home finishing materials and accessories. It is only established in Lucban that focused in tiles and related products like toilet accessories such as water closet, showers, toilets doors, lavatory etc. It started with a humble beginning in 2002 as a floor tiles retail store in Balintawak Street, Brgy 7 Lucban, Quezon. In 2008 they put up another store in Rizal, Avenue Lucban, Quezon. As of now Lucban Tiles Center is stable and successfully operating business.
II. QUALITATIVE DESCRIPTION OF THE EXISTING SUPPLY CHAINS
One of the most significant changes in the paradigm of modern business management is that individual businesses no longer compete as solely autonomous entities, but rather as supply chains. Effective supply chain management (SCM) has become a potentially valuable way of securing competitive advantage and improving organizational performance since competition is no longer between organizations, but among supply chains.
Supply Chain Management is a set of approaches utilized to efficiency integrate suppliers, manufacturers, warehouses and stores, so that merchandise is produce and distribute at the right quantities, to the right location to the right time, in order to minimize system-wide costs while satisfying the service level requirement (Simchi-Levi, et al., 2000). We are able to identify the supply chain network through the information we get from the owner of the company starting from the retailer (Lucban Tiles Center) to the manufacturer.
This supply chain network is consisted of supplier/manufacturer, distributor, retailer, end-user. In totality, there are 18 manufacturers which supplies products to 3 distributors and distribute the products to Lucban Tiles Center and butes the products to Lucban Tiles Center and provide products to another retailer which sell to the customers.
Specifically, Well Home Ventures and Dev’t Corp distribute products from 4 different manufacturers, the Emerald Corp. W. O. A. Bldg. and Home Décor Product, Shide Plastic Window Door Corp., Ltd, and Italia and then supply it to Lucban Tiles Center. BJ Commercial Trading (3PL) distributes products only from one manufacturer which is the Royal Tern Ceramics Phil., Inc. then supply to Lucban Tiles Center. The last distributor, Century World Marketing distributes products from 6 different manufacturers which are, Hocheng Phil., Corp., Mikasa Royal Crown, Maxtenic, Soho, Master, and also Royal Tern Ceramics Phil., Inc. and then supply to Lucban Tile Center.
There are 7 manufacturers who directly supplies products to Lucban Tile centers without passing to the distributor. These companies are, Ecorock Corp, Kent Vinyl Tiles, Caesar Ceramic Tiles Corp Formosa Ceramic Tiles Corp, Eurotiles Industrial Corp., Artes Myer Phil. Inc., Allgemenie-Bau-Chemie Phil., Inc, and...
